PUPPIES!!!!!!
All Phoenix puppies are genuine rescue cases and many have had to be hand-reared. Where the mother is known, we insist that she is sterilised as soon as possible after weaning. |

| HUSKY X .....PLUS PUPS!
Found languishing in an SPA pound, poor LOUKI and her son Rex were not coping very well. Louki was pregnant and very sad. Her owner had made the very difficult decision to place them there when she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She has sadly since died, but not before hearing the news that Louki had been taken out by Phoenix and Rex re-homed.
Louki gave birth to 6 healthy pups shortly after she was taken into Phoenix foster-care.
| The pups are believed to be Shepherd X possibly Husky (although the cream one seems to have different parentage, possibly Labrador). | |
| They will be ready for their new homes at the beginning of February when they will be chipped and have had all of the necessary injections.
| |
| Here are more piccies of Louki`s pups!!...this one`s a little silver boy.
If you`re interested in adopting one, please contact carer Sharon on 05 53 60 73 11 sharonleechappell@hotmail.co.uk
| .....and this, a silver girl. | |
| |
| Mum, 7yr-old LOUKI, will be available for adoption as soon as her babies have left and she’s been sterilised.
She’s very calm, easy-going, loving and loyal – excellent in house and car and not one to stray. |
| She would suit anyone who wanted a faithful companion, who didn’t need much exercise! | |
| "I do sometimes summon up the energy for a little exercise!", says Louki. | |

SHEPHERD X GRIFFON
Waiting on death row in the pound, sad and also pregnant, HETTIE thought her prospects were very grim. However, along came her fairy godmother, in the shape of Phoenix, and rescued her!
| |
| Her eight puppies (yes, eight!) were born in October, and have happily all been re-homed. Hettie has made a great recovery, thanks to lots of TLC and good food (she does like her food!), and is now waiting for a home of her own.
She is about 7 years-old, and in very good health indeed. She’s a German Shepherd / Griffon cross, which means, well….take a look at the photos and see! She weighs about 30 kilos, and is the size of a female Labrador. Very gentle and very obedient, she walks beautifully on the lead and her recall is ok and improving with the help of treats! A fenced garden is a must, though, because she is part Griffon and, as Hettie says, she definitely doesn’t want to end up at the pound again! She gets on well with dogs (currently living with another dog), and is fine with cats, horses, donkeys...and is scared of chickens!
| |
| Hettie is due to be spayed at the end of January. She is microchipped, has been vaccinated, including against rabies and has her passport. She has also been treated for fleas, worms and ticks. If you think you can offer the forever home that this lovely, lovely girl longs for, then please contact her foster carers, Jane & Steve Hunt, on 05 53 90 56 09 email: harman_hunt@yahoo.co.uk (there`s an underscore between the words harman and hunt!)

BRUNO DE JURA X
This appealing face belongs to HUGO, a mixed-breed `chien courant`- style French hunting hound.
Hugo came into our care some time ago, having been picked up as a stray. He was happily rehomed, but unfortunately his owner died and we have been obliged to take him back into foster-care.
| Hugo is now coming up for an anniversary. It is nearly a year since he arrived at his current foster-carer’s and he’s still patiently waiting for the right, special home to come along. The problem is that Hugo has had such a traumatic life in his distant past that he finds people rather intimidating (unsurprising!), although once he`s ‘bonded’, he’s adoring.
He’s a loving boy who needs a fenced garden and owners happy to give him lots of TLC.
Hugo is now about 7 years-old and has spent too long in a kennel waiting, so if you have time, patience, love, and a fully-fenced garden, Hugo would love to hear from you.
Being a hunt breed, he is good with other dogs, though not so very good with cats or chickens! But he is not an escape artist, and when he gets to know you is loyal and devoted.
Could you make 2012 his best year ever? If so, please contact Sharon on 05 53 60 73 11 email: sharonleechappell@hotmail.co.uk....................... He`s chipped, fully-vaccinated and neutered.
| Hugo in stately pose! |

GORGEOUS "HEINZ 57"
What might he have in him?...at a guess Lassie Collie, maybe Belgian Shepherd, maybe even Whippet. Whatever, the result is a 100% devoted and obedient dog.
| We`ve called him SAM and he`d been straying for weeks before a kind soul managed to win his confidence. As you can see from the photos, Sam is reserved, almost shy, but he quickly overcomes his initial timidity. |
He yearns for love and affection, but is infinitely gentle and undemanding in his approach....Sam is never `in your face`!
Here he is sharing a cuddle with his adoring carer, Phil, who tells us that 6 yr-old Sam has obviously lived in a house, as he is clean, undestructive and understands house `rules`. Phil says Sam is his `best friend`!! He does have a bouncy side as well, though but was a bit camera-shy when these pictures were taken!
| He`s fine with other dogs (he hasn`t yet met a cat at his foster home), but is very people-oriented, so would probably be just as happy as an only dog....he`s the sort to follow you anywhere, though until he bonded, a fully-fenced garden would be essential.
If you`re interested in Sam, please contact Sheelagh on 05 53 54 94 81 (leave a message) email: sheerik@wanadoo.fr

BLACK LABRADOR X
When we found ELSA and her mother, Douschka, they were living in apalling conditions with their 8 pups and several other adult dogs. Elsa`s condition was urgent, because she had severely inturned eyelashes which were scratching the cornea continually. Her eyes were closed and pus-filled.
Not hoping to save her sight, but to relieve her suffering, our vets operated to remove the offending eyelids. The result was not pretty, and her corneas were badly ulcerated....but she could see!!
| Since August, there has been vast improvement! The corneas are clear and the inflammation is gradually diminishing. Elsa`s `owner` has been persuaded to part with her and we are now offering her for adoption. |
Elsa is a year-old black Labrador X, gentle as a lamb and just longing for a new start to life! She`s totally unaggressive and non-dominant, fine with all other dogs, cats and even tiny kittens.
She`s never been properly socialised, so she`s timid with strangers. This is soon overcome with the help of a titbit or two!! - then she just wants cuddles and affection. With TLC and time, she will blossom!
| She`s undestructive, quiet and clean in the house. She`s not used to car-travel and needs to take it slowly.
Elsa will need a loving, peaceful home, with a fully-fenced garden, until she settles. Another friendly dog may well help her confidence. We hope there`s someone out there who has love and time in abundance. They will be well rewarded!
To meet Elsa, please contact Sheelagh on tel: 05 53 54 94 81 (leave a message) email: sheerik@wanadoo.fr
A further, cosmetic, eye op is envisaged to tighten the lids. It is not essential though. Please discuss this with us if you`d like to adopt her and want the second op done. |

DALMATION X
Gentle DOUSCHKA is the 4 yr-old mother of Elsa (above). Found living in filthy conditions, with a pack of other adults and puppies, Elsa and Douschka had come to the attention of the local welfare officers. We stepped in and the two were taken into Phoenix foster care.
| Like Elsa, Douschka has not been badly-treated. They loved their owner and he adored them...he just couldn`t cope with his own life, let alone that of his dogs!
Douschka is a very loving and sweet-natured dog. Initially a bit nervous, she soon warms up and has so much love to give!! Clean in the house, undestructive, good with cats and other dogs, fine on or off the lead, she`s a very easy dog. The only downside is that she`s yet to be relaxed in the car, as she had undoubtedly never been in a car in her life until she was taken into care.
| Stunningly marked - white with black spots and a patch - she`s a smallish/medium, lightly-built dog. Not as big and nowhere near as strong and energetic as a Dalmation, Douschka is docile and submissive.
Relatively calm home conditions and a fenced garden would be essential, until she`s found her feet, but this dog is going to make a fabulous and devoted friend.
Douschka is chipped, fully-vaccinated and sterilised and if you`d like to meet her (and daughter, Elsa!), please contact Sheelagh on tel: 05 53 54 94 81 (leave a message) email: sheerik@wanadoo.fr |

BEAGLE X PINSCHER
This little fellow is young CHICO, who was brought in to the local pound during the Christmas period - victim of `holiday abandon`! About 10 months-old and a tiny Beagle X miniature Pinscher (we think!), he`s a darling little elf of a dog with long, long legs. Maybe he even has a bit of Whippet in him?
| Chico is affectionate, sensitive and loving. He`s good on the lead and is fine with other dogs, even entire males. He`s gentle and submissive with people and needs to have his confidence boosted.
Chico has been chipped, vaccinated and neutered and for further details, please contact Sheelagh on tel: 05 53 54 94 81 (leave a message) email: sheerik@wanadoo.fr |

+++++ SPA OF BERGERAC +++++
Many Phoenix dogs (and cats) have been `rescued` by us from the Bergerac French SPA pound, which is so over-crowded that frequent euthanasia is unavoidable. Sadly, we don`t have the foster-space to be able to take in more than a very small percentage of these animals on death-row.
However, we are happy to visit the pound with you and assist with the adoption. We may, in certain cases, be able to negotiate the tariff.
We will also endeavor to rehome any dog adopted directly from the SPA pound if the adoption doesn`t work out.....we would not expect you to have to make the difficult decision to return it to the pound!
Please note that dogs adopted from Bergerac SPA are NOT sterilised unless indicated in the text. Currently, male cats are castrated, but female cats are NOT sterilised.

+++++ RESCUE CATS IN THE LOT +++++
A friend was alerted to a cat family in dire straits. The owners had moved on and left 2 cats and a dog behind. One cat and the dog were run over, but Constance took the other cat and her 4 kittens – who were living in a barn full of broken glass - home.
| |
| The mother tested negative to FeLV/FIV and has been sterilised and tattooed. The kittens are healthy and will shortly be spayed and tattooed.
