ADOPTION

Countless thousands of unwanted animals are abandoned each year in France alone. Many of these will die of starvation or injury, or be killed on the roads. The vast majority of those who find themselves in official ‘refuges’ will be euthanised for the simple reason that supply well outweighs demand. While people continue to insist on buying puppies from breeders, this pitiful waste is unavoidable. If you are thinking of giving a home to an animal, please pluck up courage and go to your local shelter. Your new friend may demand a bit more patience, but you will be rewarded over and over again.

ADOPTION POLICY: We have no fixed tariff for adoption but a financial contribution to cover the costs incurred in preparing an animal for adoption is usually necessary. Where appropriate, the animal will be tattooed or microchipped, vaccinated and sterilised. Animals adopted from the SPA, with our help, are subject to the SPA's current tariffs. Don't hesitate to contact us if you are looking for something specific. We can nearly always get you what you want, given a little time!

PUPPIES!!!!

A young bitch and a litter of pups were found abandoned in a nearby wood. It took several days of food and persuasion before the family could be brought into a safe haven.

Here are the pups......this little girl is HOLLY
And this is her very sweet and a little less self-confident sister, SORREL.
Look at that little face!

Click Here for More Photos of these Sweeties!
Here they are enjoying a Sunny Day (at last) in the Garden.

The pups will be lightly-built, small/medium size when fully-grown.
Chipped, vaccinated, wormed and flea-treated.
This is their Mum, a pretty Shepherdy, Sheltielike Spaniel.
Don`t worry, we think she has found a new home!

MORE PUPPIES!!!!!!!!!

A beautiful Beauceron X, who we named Nadia, was found abandoned with a family of 2week-old pups – 11 of them! – and taken to the local French pound.
Such a huge family could not be accommodated at the pound and sadly the only solution was to be euthanasia.

We took up the challenge…and very shortly the whole family was ensconced in the warmth and comfort of a foster-home.
All survived and Nadia has since been happily rehomed.

We just have one pup of this litter left - little BELLA.....a lively little lass (seen here during a moment of repose!).

We think their father might have been a Belgian Shepherd, but there may also be some terrier in the mix.

Whatever, she`s a super little dog, who has been vaccinated, wormed, de-parasited and will be chipped on adoption.

KIERA`S soul shines out of her eyes. She`s a very, very special dog!
Like so many of her breed, she`s more of a best friend than a dog, devotional in her love, yet in Kiera`s case, without a trace of jealousy.
No need for a lead - she`ll follow at your heels wherever you go, but she`s also quite happy to be left at home. You won`t come back to any nasty surpises!
She`s a 5yr-old German Shepherd with a story to tell (if she could speak!).
We found her starved and exhausted, lying by a country road one evening.
We later discovered that she had been lost for a whole month during the ice and snow and had travelled 90km from her old home.
Her original owners had used her as a `breeding machine` and don`t want her anymore.

Kiera is a truly wonderful dog - affectionate, loyal and totally non-dominant.
She`s wary of cats, but loves people, is 100% with children and gentle with other dogs. She takes no notice of poultry.
And her ears go up!! In fact `up` is the way she carries her ears unless she`s in a cuddly mood.

Kiera is tattooed, vaccinated, sterilised and would make a perfect all-round family dog, or a faithful companion for a single person.

And who`s this `couch-potato`?? LULABELLE!!! who`s everybody`s idea of the perfect lop-eared hunting dog.
Lulabelle is how a hunting dog SHOULD be, though unfortunately they have often been so traumatised it takes years to make companion dogs of them.

Lulu`s obviously been well-loved and it`s a complete mystery why she has been abandoned.
She`s a wonderful dog - happy, cuddly and extremely affectionate.
She adores people and has excellent recall...not at all the usual wayward hunting dog character.

She`s absolutely fine with all other dogs, and indeed all other animals - except cats, we`re afraid. Cats we think she`d like to chase.
"Well, come on", says Lulabelle, "There`s got to be something of the hunter in me!"

Lulabelle is a 2yr-old Bleu de Gascogne - one of the most noble and ancient of the French hunting breeds - and is sterilised, vaccinated and microchipped.

REX is a two year-old German Shepherd with a beautiful rich red coat.
He is up for adoption because his owners are, unfortunately, no longer able to care for him.

He is microchipped, vaccinated and neutered and has an excellent character.
Obedient, gentle and brilliant with other dogs, Rex`s great joy is to play with a tennis ball - preferably with someone else doing the throwing!

…an easy-going, lovely chap who deserves all the best for 2010!

The French call this stunning breed `chien loup` - `Wolf-dog`....a white Shepherd. And he IS white - pure white, though here he`s a delicate cream after weeks of fun-and-games in the mud!
LUCA spent the first 3 years of his life mostly shut in a flat, though he did occasionally accompany his owner on bike rides.
He was not mistreated, just neglected.

For this reason, he has an aloofness and timidity on first meeting, though he soon warms up.
Quietly affectionate, he`s loyal and reserved by nature and would be a perfect companion for anyone who longs for the `call of the wild`!
Neither dominant nor subordinate, he`s comfortable with other dogs, not especially interested in cats and is 100% with children.

Clean and undestructive in the house, good on the lead and fine in the car, Luca is chipped, vaccinated and neutered.

We found MERLE being bullied by the other dogs in his cage at the local pound.
This picure of him taken there is beautiful, but sad.
You can see how much happier he is now in his foster-home!

He`s a one-and-a-half-year old Australian Shepherd, with the typical broken eye-colour and wonderful, dense, blue merle-coloured coat.

He has all the qualities of a good shepherd - affection, loyalty and complicity.
He is non-dominant and thoroughly enjoys the company of other dogs.
Here he is having a good old romp with his friend Sally!

For someone wanting a beautiful, faithful friend....

Merle is chipped, vaccinated and neutered.

And here`s another doe-eyed Golden Labrador. We’ve christened him DAGLAN (affectionately known as Kiki!)
Found straying with his good friend Maddie, the Boxer, he was admitted to the pound, where the the pair of them faced euthanasia until we rescued them.
He’s about 9yrs-old and is a calm, gentle and affectionate chap.
He’s OK with other dogs, but prefers the girls of course!!
Games of ball and chase – especially cats! – are right up his street and he`s also a real ‘water baby’.

Obedient and fine in house and car, he has obviously been well-loved and well-trained.

Delightful Daglan is chipped, vaccinated and neutered.
And this is MADDIE, sticking her tongue out – something she loves to do. You would have thought that at 7yrs-old, she’d have learnt some manners!
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
Boxers can sometimes be manic and ‘pushy’…not Maddie.
She’s has a truly lovely personality – outgoing and sociable.
She’s brilliant in house and car, and is obedient, loyal, playful and very, very loving....a Boxer at its Best!

Maddie would be best in a home without cats and with another male dog for company. She would not be happy with a dominant bitch.

Maddie is chipped, vaccinated and sterilised.

Found abandoned and on the street, the future for this young girl was either the local SPA pound or Phoenix, so we took her into foster-care and christened her DAISY.
Daisy is about 1 yr-old and is a black Lab X perhaps Collie or Belgian Shepherd.

She`s a confident girl, fine with other dogs, 100% with children, but not trustworthy with cats yet....we`re working on her training!
She`s clean in the house, doesn`t pull on the lead and travels well.

A handsome and affectionate dog, she will make an excellent all-round family dog.

Chipped, vaccinated and sterilised
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
In the bitter recent cold, we found these two little 8 yr-old neglected Dachshunds huddled, shivering, in the back of their pen at the pound.
One of them had virtually no hair left and must have been absolutely freezing!

Out they came and are now curled up on the sofa together in the warmth of their foster home.

We called them Max and Ernst.

Little `baldie` here is MAX.
He had mange and a flea-allergy, but has now been treated and his fur is beginning to grow back.
He will be a brindle long-haired Dakkie in a few months time!
He`s very sweet-natured and initially a little more timid than brother Ernst.
ERNST is a tan short-haired Dak and is very loving and affectionate....a real `lap-dog`!
Very cuddly, they both just want luuurv!

Fine with small children, cats and other dogs, it would be wonderful if they could find a home together.

Both have been chipped, vaccinated and de-parasited and neutered.

This striking chap is MALIBU, a beautiful Siamese-and-white with stunning blue eyes!

Malibu is chipped, vaccinated and neutered.

Beautiful JOSETTE has been living rough for months in a ruined gite - all through this freezing weather!
Taken in by a caring friend, she`s now warm and cosy and is thoroughly enjoying the affection and attention she`s receiving.

A young tabby-point Siamese X, we can`t imagine it`ll be long before she`s offered a permanant home.
The eyes say it all!.....

Josette is chipped, vaccinated and sterilised.
