The Midsummer Dog and Duck Relay!!
Is this Midsummer insanity? Have we all gone ‘completely quackers’ or possibly ‘barking mad’?? …..
After the great success of the 2007 Doggy Paddle across the Dordogne, our team has decided to attempt a two-way relay crossing of the Lac de Neufont, near Vergt in the Dordogne. Each team, suitably attired, will bravely attempt to carry their baton - a Bone for the Dogs and an Egg for the Ducks - across the waters of the lake, starting out at 12 noon on Saturday 21 June 2008…. an auspicious date, we hope, being the Summer Solstice. No prize for the winning team, except for the honour and glory, and the first to receive a beer for their fortitude!
Fancy dress is the order of the day for the participants, but in no way obligatory for our supporters, and we hope that as many people as possible will come and join us for the fun. Bring a picnic and a swimming costume, but note that dogs are not permitted at the Lake itself. There is shaded parking at the entrance to the grounds of the lake. There is also a restaurant and bar - La Guingette. The Lac de Neufont is just south of Vergt on the D21 and, coming from the Perigueux direction, it is the first turn on the left after the roundabout – well signed.

Last year’s Doggy Paddle raised about 3000 euros and we hope to achieve a similar target this year. As you know, all the money we raise goes directly to helping abused or abandoned dogs or cats. If you have not done so recently, then do have a look at the Phoenix website (www.phoenixasso.com) so that you can see the work we do.
