A BIG THANKYOU

It can be a depressing business dealing with a constant stream of abandoned and abused animals. It’s the nature of things that unwanted, abandoned animals tend to be the elderly and/or infirm… some in very poor shape, terrified or badly handicapped.

Phoenix is not a sanctuary and, after temporary fostering, we have to find new homes for all who come our way. We couldn’t succeed in this work were it not for the wonderful kindness of the Anglophone community!
It’s a constant source of inspiration that people will telephone, not for the beautiful Setter cross or the fine Shepherd, but ask if they can give a home to the one whose leg hasn’t set properly or the one who is blind in one eye or the elderly (and rather ugly!) little mutt.

And the extraordinary thing is that we later hear that the animal has brought so much pleasure and love to its new home.

Here are a couple of recent examples…..

SCARLET was found in the local pound where she hadn’t a chance as she had a deformed foot…….. impossible to rehome to the French who will not consider a ‘defective’ animal..
This lovely Beauceron had been roughly treated and was rather timid but quiet and obedient.
A kind couple were quick to see the beauty behind the physical deformity and Scarlet was quickly adopted. She`s now enjoying life to the full with a 4-month Setter pup to keep her on her toes.

HENRY was found in the woods, unidentified. A Bleu de Gascogne crossed Pointer of 4-5 years, he had an old thigh-bone fracture which had parted, overlapped and shortened the leg by 5-6 cm. The problem was found to be inoperable as the muscles were now too fibrous to separate.
He went to a Phoenix foster-home and once on our website adoption page there was quite a clamour for him!
He is now happily rehomed with a family with two children and a 10-month old puppy to play with.

Little POPEYE didn`t have a hope in hell when we rescued him but we were sure someone would fall in love with him. He`s a very pretty, lively 10-year old apricot poodle cross. Popeye is deaf and his eyesight is poor because of cataracts, but he`s far from geriatric and full of beans.

Here`s what his `new mum` reports...
So glad to say that little Popeye has settled in so well and had great fun down at the lake this morning. He was running around like a young thing and slept in the kitchen last night without any problems. He has an appointment with the beauty parlour for a `shampoo and set`. He had a lovely time with my neighbours children this morning. We`ll keep in touch to let you know how he`s doing.
